By now you have probably heard that earlier this month Pantone unveiled the 2015 Color of the Year: “Marsala.” The hue is described as “a naturally robust and earthy wine red.” You have been seeing this color for years but now it will be everywhere, especially in fashion, beauty and hair.

Even before Pantone came out with their yearly, our mane man Jeffrie Zampell at Millennium Personal Spa & Hair Studio gave RapidLash the lowdown on this fiery shade and shared a few words of wisdom. His expert advice makes me think that you should ask yourself two questions before getting this racy color.

Are you ready for the undertaking?

“There is one fact that you should know if you are thinking of plunging in the merlot pool. It’s work! Your stylist should explain that reds, fade, fade, fade! So be prepared to glaze your ends on every visit, which will be an extra charge and service.

This is a serious responsibility, like paying bills or feeding a cat. It will take a dedicated and diligent effort to keep this color looking its spirited best. If you slack, the price you pay may be a stale visage. Nobody wants that.

Do you always think twice?

This color is not for the commitment phobic. You might have an easier time getting out of a lease so be sure to sleep on it before you make your appointment.

“If you are girl who changes her mind on occasion (you know who you are) reds are the hardest color to eliminate from the hair. They are like your ex-boyfriend showing up just when you think you’ve moved on. That said it is such a beautiful statement and with the right complexion, fabulous!”
