In February, we tend to focus on beauty, NY Fashion Week and love-day romance. We promise to keep the beauty tips coming but we also want to open our hearts to larger issues this month.
Last year, NBC’s Today Show unveiled a year-long outreach project focused on service called Shine a Light, where each Today Show personality chose a worthy cause to support. Co-host Hoda Kotb designated pediatric cancer as her cause and chose the American Cancer Society as her benefiting charity. All funds raised through Hoda’s Shine a Light initiative directly support pediatric cancer research. Over 500,000 has been raised so far!
Hoda has been personally touched by the cause and is making a difference in the lives of children struggling with this disease. “As a cancer survivor myself, I know what it feels like as a grownup,” Hoda said. “But what I can’t even fathom, even now, is what it feels like to be a kid … struggling with this grown-up disease, something they shouldn’t have to deal with. And all you want to do is reach out and help and hug.”
As part of her campaign, Hoda brought together music superstars Sara Bareilles and Cyndi Lauper to create a powerful song titled “Truly Brave”. The song and music video, which was shot at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, was created to lift children’s spirits in hospitals across the country and raise awareness for pediatric cancer.
This month, we will donate $10 to Shine a Light for every Rapid product purchased on www.rapidlash.com. If you are already stocked up, there are many ways to help make a difference such as a tax-deductible donation, volunteering or taking part in one of their many life-changing events.
We hope that you will help us by donating to pediatric cancer and make it a thing of the past. We will keep you apprised of our progress. #ShineALight
